Corticosteroid creams and pills
Corticosteroids, available as creams, ointments, or pills, are used to treat eczema. These man-made steroids mimic natural steroids in our body, helping to reduce inflammation and itching.8
Topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs)
TCIs are creams that help with some eczema symptoms by preventing certain immune cells from activating. This can reduce inflammation and itching.2
Topical phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors
There is currently one FDA-approved topical PDE4 inhibitor for AD. This ointment works by blocking the production of several cytokines, which play a role in the inflammation associated with AD.
JAK inhibitors
JAK inhibitors are available in both cream and pill forms for treating eczema. They work by blocking immune signals and reducing inflammation, which helps manage eczema symptoms.2
Biologics
Biologics for eczema are administered via injectable pen. These treatments are made from living organisms that work within the immune system to address a cause of a certain disease. For eczema, they block specific immune signaling cells, reducing the immune response and helping control symptoms.2
